I could restart the footnote numbering on each page with the specific symbols, but is there no way to avoid this? I run into the same issue with the restart of the numbering after the section break with the Table. Even if I restart the numbering of the footnotes in the text at 1 at each chapter, Originally I would have preferred continuous (numerical) numbering of all my footnotes in the text throughout the dissertation (even though that leads to 252 total footnotes). It's not a 'tracking changes' issue either, as I have that turned off. I've tried to clear formatting within the sections and tried to format the correct way but no luck.

I have figured out a way to right click and select update field to make them return to what they should be, however there must be a problem somewhere in the footnote formatting. The footnotes keep renumbering themselves after I change them and save the doc.
